Trade Facilitation

Facilitating the smooth flow of goods, persons and services across the COMESA region

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Trade Facilitation Project (TFP) is implemented by the COMESA Secretariat with co-delegates Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The 53 million Euro project runs over 42 months until 2022 and is funded by the European Union under the 11thEuropean Development Fund (EDF).

TFP focuses on deepening regional integration, improving inclusive regional economic growth and enhancing competitiveness of the 21 COMESA Member States. It does this by resolving non-tariff barriers, supporting implementation of the World Trade Organization trade facilitation agreements, and capacity building for Border Agencies and other government bodies with mandates to regulate cross-border trade.

Focusing on selected corridors within the Tripartite region, TFP supports Coordinated Border Management (CBM) and the improvement and harmonisation of Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary (SPS) and other technical standards as well as improvement of the liberalisation of the trade in services and movement of persons.
